The Frame is a non-profit news operation and guided by the following values:
We subscribe to standards of editorial independence adopted by the Institute for Nonprofit News:
The Frame retains full authority over editorial content to protect the best journalistic and business interests of our organization. We maintain a fundamental separation between news coverage decisions and sources of all revenue. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their products, services, or opinions.
We accept gifts, grants, and sponsorships from individuals and organizations for the general support of our activities, but our news judgments are made independently and not based on donor support.
Our organization may consider donations to support the coverage of particular topics, but our organization maintains editorial control of the coverage. We will cede no right of review or influence of editorial content, nor of unauthorized distribution of editorial content.
Free of influence and special interests
Fact based content following journalistic principles of attribution and accuracy
Ensuring content is representative and accessible by all
Voices from throughout the community on stories that matter
No anonymous content creators or funding sources
Committed to treating people fairly and with dignity
We are committed to transparency in every aspect of funding our organization.
The Frame is an initiative of Access Framingham, a 501(c)(3) organization that serves as its fiscal sponsor. As such is funded through the same contracts, agreements, and revenue sources that govern the funding of Access Framingham.
Access Framingham receives the majority of its funding through cable access fees assessed to cable subscribers in Framingham through a Franchise Fee. The Franchise Fee is part of the agreement between the City of Framingham and each cable operator. (Verizon, Comcast, and RCN)
The City of Framingham receives 5% of the gross revenue from the cable operators in Framingham. Approximately 70% of that fee is passed through to Access Framingham through a separate agreement. This agreement also ensures that Access Framingham, as the designated community non-profit, operates freely from editorial influence of the cable operators and the City of Framingham.
More detailed information on the structure and operation of Access Framingham can be found in the Corporate Policies and Procedures and Bylaws.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Access Framingham does not pay certain taxes. We may receive funds from standard government programs offered to non-profits or similar businesses.
Our news judgments are made independently – not based on or influenced by donors or any revenue source. We do not give supporters the rights to assign, review, or edit content.
We make public all revenue sources and donors who give $5,000 or more per year.
We avoid accepting charitable donations from anonymous sources, political parties, elected officials, or candidates seeking public office. We will not accept donations from sources who, deemed by our board of directors, present a conflict of interest with our work or compromise our independence.
