Incumbent David Gordon and challenger Lorena Tovar earned enough votes on Tuesday to proceed to November’s municipal election. The candidates are running to represent District 2 on the Framingham School Committee
FRAMINGHAM - Unofficial results show that incumbent David Gordon and challenger Lorena Tovar received the most votes during the preliminary Framingham School Committee election in District 2 on Tuesday, September 16. Both candidates will be advancing to the municipal election in early November.
While Gordon is the incumbent District 2 School Committee member, having served in the role since he was appointed back in 2022, Tovar received the most votes across all three District 2 precincts in the preliminary race. Tovar received 146 tallies compared to Gordon’s 81, according to the unofficial results that were released Tuesday night.
In a conversation with The Frame, Tovar's campaign manager Esta Montano said that the candidate is "thrilled" with the results, adding that she is "looking forward to continuing to engage with the community" ahead of the November election. Tovar has identified boosting early education, teacher morale, and equitable education access as major pillars of her campaign.
In a statement sent to The Frame, David Gordon thanked those who supported him and provided their thoughts leading up to the preliminary election.
"I will always be about putting students first," Gordon's statement continued.
"Ensuring strong transportation services, expanding early education, supporting achievement, and maintaining safe, well-kept school facilities. I look forward to continuing these conversations in the weeks ahead and working to build the trust and accountability our community deserves."
Challenger Luther Evans received 24 total votes.
Per the unofficial results, a total of 252 out of the 5,558 registered voters in District 2 submitted a vote in the preliminary election. That represents a 4.53% voter turnout rate.
With these results, Gordon and Tovar will be on the ballot later in the fall to represent District 2 on the School Committee for the next two years. Interviews with Gordon and Tovar can be found on our website as well as Access Framingham’s YouTube channel.
